Set in 1987, Senator Gary Hart (Hugh Jackman) is lead candidate of Democratic Party for the upcoming US elections. He was the favorite among the people as compared to the rival Republican candidate George Bush. Gary was not a faithful husband and creates things difficult for him in elections. Journalists find out women coming in and out of Hart’s townhouse while his family was living in the countryside. It becomes a big issue and the team behind Hart’s campaign must bring up a solution to save his image.
